Salon Interior Design
Creating Well Being and Relaxation.
We love to contribute to sustainability.
When designing the salon the aim of Laura and I was to create an environment of well being and relaxation, with aesthetically pleasing spaces for clients and staff. We wanted to create an atmosphere using sustainable environmental materials to conceive an alternative to conventional interior design.
We carefully evaluated each stage of the development to make sure we have the least impact on our planet’s already fragile resources.
Our research led us to a furniture manufacturing company in the city of Modena in Italy whose philosophy was innovation in processes and product, supported by the idea that art and technology are inseparable. They used sustainable sourced materials to make beautiful Philippe Starck designed pieces.
Philippe Starck is the French designer famous for producing innovative pieces and creative interior hairdresser salon furniture.
Our first purchases were our dressing units created from aluminium cans with glass and mirrors from recycled wine bottles, wooden pieces from recycled wood waste, and chairs covers from plastic trays. The dressing units were designed to be moveable allowing us to create open spaces for parties and special events.
Our next project was the building structure itself and we commissioned The Leeds Architects DLG Diamond Grabonsky to develop our ideas and bring back the internal features to there original early 20th century design.
The salons main structural feature was the solid mahogany stairs to the mezzanine level which were restored as the main interior focal point. The balustrade which Laura and I designed took its inspiration from bicycle wheels.
And so began the conception and realization of our dreams.![]()
The Salon is today a “Flagship L’Oreal Salon”
