Loreal Professionnel Portfolio Team

Jason Wyatt from RMUK and the L’Oréal Professionnel Portfolio team takes part in the Central Saint Martins BA Fashion Show.

Central Saint Martins is synonymous with talent and flair, and has seen some of the biggest names in fashion graduate from its London college. The current spate of students took part in their BA Fashion Show, which was sponsored by L’Oréal Professionnel for the tenth year.

Held at York Hall in London’s Bethnal Green, 40 graduate designers showcased their latest collections in womenswear, knit, print and menswear to an audience of colleagues, international buyers and press. Designs ranged from the colourful and creative to stunningly simple and sophisticated.

Hair took a back seat and let the clothes do the talking. Simple top knots, chignons and plaited updos were in abundance, often accompanied by headdresses such as bird-shaped feathers and felt hats.

A team from L’Oréal Professionnel Portfolio worked on the models throughout the day, which included Jason Wyatt from RMUK; Chris Appleton from George’s Hairdressing; Sophie Beattie from Royston Blythe; Alison Dace from Saks Hair & Beauty; Kathryn Dartnell from Haringtons; Emma Donohue from Level One; Faye Downey from Barbara Daley Stacey Egan from Guy Kremer; Vanessa Essack and Helen Timofti from Paul Edmonds; Danielle Langley from Richard Ward Hair & Metrospa; Andy Simmonds from John Jenkins and Lucy Wwlling from Charles Worthington.

The evening culminated in an award for best designer. Alex Mullins was awarded second prize for his bright prints for men with Phillip Patterson claiming first prize for his simple menswear collection.

The L’Oréal Professionnel Young Designer of the Year went to Yi Fang Wan

Giorgio Armani Collection 2009

Giorgio Armani Show Fall Winter 2008-2009

Giorgio Armani, always free spirited returns to an ethnic theme fusing cultures effortlessly in an eclectic but thoroughly contemporary mix, with its relaxed attitude, demanding flat shoes quilted and embroidered in precious satin. Proportions lengthen as skirts flow around the figure.

Playing with the dimensions of trousers, sometimes narrow and sometimes wide. The contrasts continue with an Afghan coat over a svelte city jacket.

Resplendent eveningwear comes in spectacular patterns, all accentuated with appealing baubles, crescent moons, braid diamonds and black jet medallions that trim bags, rope necklaces and chokers.

Christian Dior by John Galliano Collection 2009

Christian Dior by John Galliano Show Fall Winter 2008-2009

This was such an amazing Christian Dior show,  John Galliano seems to be on a winning streak with the Haute Couture Collections. In a way, it was a classic combining the indelible fifties inspiration of Lisa Fonssagrives, Dior mannequin and wife of Irving Penn, and that of the new model of French conservative chic, Carla Bruni Sarkozy. Those two streams of thought merged into a collection John Galliano called “fresh couture restrained and refined”. The fact that the first lady of France has chosen to dress at Dior gave Galliano full rein to revel in the realms of glamour.

This was Christian Dior very much under control and within the scope of reality.
